Develop self-awareness.

Most of the choices you make subconsciously, or while you are distracted, tend to undermine your goals and keep you from achieving what you want. By tracking your choices and putting conscious effort into making them, you will be more likely to make decisions that help you achieve your goals.

When you begin to pay attention to how you feel about indulging in the habits that bring you further away from your goal, more often than not, you may realize that you didn’t need to indulge in it in the first place, as it’s a pretty unsatisfying experience.

Detailed steps for this action are only available in the app.

  1. Notice when you are making choices related to the challenge you face, and track them.
For example, if you are trying to get fit, notice when you think about going to the gym. Take note of whether you packed your gym bag in the morning so you wouldn’t have to go home (where you then have time to come up with an excuse to skip the workout).
For one day, track all the decisions you make that are related to the challenge you are facing.

  2. At the end of the day, analyze those decisions.
Did they support or undermine your goals?

  3. Pay attention to how you feel when you indulge in a habit that keeps you from achieving your goal.
First, notice how you feel when you think about indulging in that habit. Then, when you actually indulge in it, think about how you feel afterward.
