The narrative fallacy is a very common phenomenon experienced by every single person on this planet; however, it can lead us to believe things about ourselves that are not necessarily accurate. It occurs due to our brains needing to make sense of our experiences as well as the world around us, so it often embellishes or slightly alters our memory of past events. This in turn shapes our perceptions of the world and affects our expectations for the future.
For example, it may result in you having an incorrect perception of yourself and your abilities, which could cause you to fail at a critical task in the future.
Do not attribute a success to talent or skill when it should be attributed to luck.
Truly consider all your successes and think about whether it was luck or skill that brought you to where you are today.
