When you lower the intensity of the words you use to describe your emotions, the intensity of your emotions themselves will also be lowered.
Use less intense words.
When you’re angry, upset, frustrated, etc., describe your emotions using less intense words. For example, instead of saying you’re “furious,” say you’re “peeved.” Instead of saying you’re “disappointed.” say you’re “underwhelmed.”
Use modifiers.
Use modifiers such as “just a bit” or “a tad,” i.e., “I’m just a bit peeved,” or, “I’m feeling a tad out of sorts.”
